Poncy Polemic

It is a plague.

I do not think about writing here very often. Most of the times that I do, I have just read something in the news about this or that conservative politician’s cold-blooded agenda or some government character selling us out for its own gain. Yes, I, like many others, am most motivated to write when I am angry. This is partly to blame for my low post volume. The process goes like this:

  1. I read something, and get angry.
  2. I start writing a post about it, probably late at night.
  3. It gets too late for me to trust my writing ability. I save the work in progress and go to sleep.
  4. I wake up, uncoffeed and groggy, and read what I wrote the night before.
  5. “Uhm, who cares?” I think.
  6. I click the little “delete” button.

If it were not for the fact that this seems to leave only nerd posts and bland “sorry for the lack of posts” posts, I would say that this is a good thing.  Ideally, this blog would be full of smart things.  Significant observations.  Non-trivial analysis.  Things that don’t make me sound like a frothing-at-the-mouth, Che-Guevara-t-shirt-wearing liberal who writes like an old lady columnist for a small-town red-state local paper. This is what I am hoping to do this time around.  The odds are set against me, but there are no reasons not to try.

Bye bye, b2evo!

So, after a long run with b2evolution, I’m moving to wordpress. This isn’t to say that I haven’t had a blast with b2evo, and I definitely have nothing bad to say about it.

The thing is that it wound up being a lot of work. I’d rewritten the anti-spam on the comments so I could leave them unmoderated, but then some jerk invented trackback spam. Eventually, it got to the point of needing a captcha for people to prove that they were human. This worked perfectly well on my own server, where php sessions lived for hours, but on a third party host that isn’t a dedicated server, well, you’d better type fast. Remind me to rant about PHP’s ridiculous default behaviour when it comes to sessions. Oh, lordy.

I have to admit, I’m just a fan of how lazy I can be with this setup.I actually did have a post to write; something about the destructive effect of a specific and incredibly valid self-criticism on my post volume, but it’s late and I’ll do it tomorrow.
